The magic of symmetry in street photography…
What a strange idea … After explaining that you need to use the rule of third to put emphasis on your subject I’m now looking for symmetry…
Indeed symmetry is also a very nice trick to lead to your subject. This is another principle that helps to balance your picture, please the viewer and help hime to detect what your really want to show.
This picture has been taken in Japan Airline Lounge in haneda airport in Tokyo, The first thing striking was for me those vertical lines on each sides framing perfectly the red glass. as you can see here there is as well another horizontal axis of symmetry created by the reflexion on the perfectly wiped floor.
I also decided here to center this reflexion line to have my subject in the middle of the image.
Another important factor in this image is the presence of directional lines that totally lead to the head of the subjects. the leading lines are also very good to use when you want to highlight something in your image.
Last but not least the red glass create a very clear frame and it’s colour helps to detach the girl walking in front…
I guess in this picture, impossible to miss the subject 😊
Let’s recap here a bit what’s happening in this picture :
Let's talk tech : in this one the most important was to be patient and smash the button exactly at the perfect moment ! That said now that I’m looking at my parameters I can say that I missed a bit the picture ;) I shoot her win Aperture priority and to respect the good exposure the shutter speed has been relatively slow ( 1/125s). to have my subject perfectly sharp I should have shot here at 1/400s and go for a little bump of ISO that could have been manageable in post. Next time I’ll know 😊
What do you think about it ??
