French heritage
Where do I come from ?
That’s actually a very simple question to which we usually answer by a birth place, a region we come from, a city we were raised in.
This simple answer for me would in Allier / Auvergne, in the middle of France, where cows or ships trust the biggest territories. And strangely enough that doesn’t really answer too much the question for me. I feel closer to habits, things, tradition, people than places. I think I could live in any place of the world and feel home as long as I got things and people that connect me to my roots.
So what is the link with those ……. what it is by the way ?? It is called siphon. It is a type of sparkling water bottle used in the beginning the 20th century in France to dilute different alcohols. And when I’ve seen those bottles in my brother’s house I had all my childhood in front of my eyes. One of them was exposed in our entrance close to a window. And from my youngest age I could observe this light refraction through this amazing blue glass.
That’s actually where I realised how emotions connect to things and to light in a certain extend. I’m sure you all have those little things that counts more to your eyes than any place in the world. The power of pictures is to bring this little thing ( and place too :) ) with you everywhere and I don’t know many media being able to transport you so fast from one emotion to another.
Yes your long iPhone photo libraries is and emotions traveling machine. Every swipe you make can transport you across your history. The only limit in a way is that for most of them it’s hard to share, because you are the only one to know what this picture really really mean for you.
That’s it, you know one of the ambition of this blog. I want here to share openly the emotions behind the scene, the stories behind the light and shadows, and moreover understand if it is triggering something for you.
So I’m not gonna ask you where do you come from… but tell me what is your heritage ? which objects or memory do you care the most about ?
Lets talk tech :
looks like a very simple one where I used the good lightning to have a very low iso and sharp picture. The little trick here was to try different depth of field (f2..8) to manage to isolate the scene but at the same time have a wide enough sharpness to see the entire object.
That way you can see that a full bottle is sharp while the one before and the one after are blurred ;)
